The Best Birthday Ever in the Studio

I celebrated my birthday by going to the studio for a ten-hour session. I couldn’t have had a better day. It was so much fun and one of my most productive sessions. Here come the highlights

Kicking Off My Birthday Session with Luke

First, my guitarist, Luke, recorded guitar and bass on four songs. We started off with my new country Christmas song, “Snow on Christmas Day.” I wrote this song on Christmas Day last year, and I’m hoping to release it in November.

Next, we moved on to my acoustic version of “Will I Ever.” I love the song acoustic, so I couldn’t pass up the chance to release an acoustic version as a bonus track on my upcoming album. You can read about the story and creation of “Will I Ever” in this blog post.

After “Will I Ever,” Luke slayed on my cover of “Homecoming Queen” by Kelsea Ballerini. This is the song that made me fall in love with country music, so I’ve wanted to record my own version for a while. What better way to do it than on my birthday? My version already sounds incredible, and it’s not even done yet! Also, since the original song doesn’t have a bridge, what did I do? You guessed it. I wrote a bridge!

Finally, Luke rapped up with guitar and bass on “Across the Pond.” I wrote this song as a thank you to everyone in the UK for their love and support. I seriously can’t wait for you all to hear this one. It’s one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written.

The Break for Lunch

After Luke finished recording, we took a lunch break. Obviously, Bob, Luke, and I devoured pizza and cupcakes. Like I said before, nothing beats spending my birthday in the studio. I hope I can do this another year, too.

Recording Vocals for “Across the Pond” and “Homecoming Queen”

With half the session left, I decided to record vocals for “Across the Pond” and “Homecoming Queen.” It felt fantastic to be back in the booth. I loved recording both of these songs. I’m looking forward to when I can release them. As of now, I’m not sure when that will be, but I’m hoping it’s sooner rather than later. The next step is to get drums recorded. I’m very excited for this!

As always, I filmed pretty much the whole session. Stay tuned to see the behind the sceens footage from my birthday session when release days roll around. I’m thinking of making a mashup vlog soon as a glimpse into the whole session. Then, each song will get its own vlog.

It’s so incredible how Bob, Luke, and I can have the most fun ever while also getting a ton of work done. I’ll never forget this birthday!
