Demi Michelle Schwartz is a pop and country songwriter from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. From a young age, she has surrounded herself with music, playing piano, singing her favorite songs, and going to as many concerts as possible. While in college, she discovered her passion for songwriting and decided to turn her experiences into lyrics. The thought of writing a new song is always in her mind, and she can’t resist typing lyrics into her phone and recording melody ideas when she’s inspired. Her songs hold an authenticity that shows who she is, staying true to herself as a songwriter.
Demi kicked off her songwriting journey in 2019 with her debut single, “Into Focus.” After following this release with several singles, she delivered her debut album, Dear Diary, on October 15, 2021. This eleven-track album, which includes Demi’s popular single, “Will I Ever,” truly gives listeners a glimpse into Demi’s heart and story. The songs capture honesty and vulnerability, much like diary entries do. Demi wrote this album for herself to explore her thoughts, feelings, and insecurities. Through writing Dear Diary, she has gone on a journey of self-discovery.
On January 28, 2022, Demi was invited onto her hometown station, 100.7 STAR Pittsburgh, to be the first artist on the morning show’s new segment, Bubba Show Live and Local Music Spotlight. Along with an interview, “Will I Ever” aired during the show, making it Demi’s first play on top 40 radio.
One of Demi’s songwriting dreams came true on March 25. It’s her goal to be a songwriter for other artists, and she landed her first songwriting cut with the release of a gorgeous and emotional piano ballad, “Never Add Up,” by UK-based artist, Lindsey Farrow. Demi both co- wrote the song and recorded piano for it. The release of “Never Add Up” was a huge moment for Demi because her first cut is something she has worked so hard to achieve.
Demi’s debut chapter earned her two nominations at the 8th Annual Josie Music Awards, which she attended at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville on October 23. She received nominations for Pop Artist of the Year and Pop Album of the Year for Dear Diary.
After a life changing debut chapter, Demi shared her five-track EP, It Is What It Is, on November 11. This project shimmers with self-empowerment and showcases Demi’s songwriting talent and passion for blending genres in her music. It gives a glimpse into what listeners can expect in the future, as Demi continues to write about meaningful and universal topics that are rooted in her personal experiences.
Awards season has come, and Demi is grateful to be up for eight music awards this year. She’s a finalist in five categories for the ISSA Awards being held in Atlanta this August, and she’s heading back to Nashville in October for round two of the Josie Music Awards with three nominations.
Demi is already working on new music at the Vault Recording Studio in Pittsburgh, where she has been recording since her debut single, “Into Focus.” She plays an active role in the production process, so all of her songs come to life in the way that she envisions them.
Along with being a songwriter and artist, Demi is the host of Write on Track: A Songwriting Podcast. She invites special guests onto the show to have meaningful conversations about various topics related to songwriting, the music business, and beyond. The goal of the show is to share real and genuine stories, perspectives, advice, and insights about all things music.
Demi has enjoyed every second of hosting the show, and she’s always learning and growing through her unforgettable conversations with her guests. Demi loves to give back to the music industry and beyond in any way that she can. During the release of Dear Diary, she was signed as a featured artist with Heart of Indie Radio. Demi is looking forward to what this new adventure has to offer. As a featured artist, she will continue to show her love for the independent artist community and belief in the importance of music education and mental health awareness.
Songwriting allows Demi to express her emotions and share her story in ways words alone can’t. She holds music close to her heart and thinks of each of her songs as a piece of her life to share with the world.
