My Tenth Anthology Publication – Wickedness & Wonder by Wild Ink Publishing

Happy publication day to Wickedness & Wonder: A Fairy Tale Anthology by Wild Ink Publishing. This is a special one for me because it’s my tenth anthology. I’m delighted to be included in this book with my Hansel and Gretel sequel, “Out of the Oven.”

You can buy a copy of Wickedness & Wonder everywhere books are sold, including Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

The Submission Call

When I saw the submission call for Wickedness & Wonder, I knew right away I wanted to write a story. I love fairy tale reimaginings, and the prompt for this anthology was to imagine what happens after a fairy tale’s ending. Choosing which story I wanted to do didn’t take long. I settled on Hansel and Gretel, since it’s one of my all-time favorite Brothers Grimm fairy tales from when I was little.

A Peek Into “Out of the Oven”

The story is set seventeen years after Hansel and Grethel escaped the wicked witch in the woods. Though the siblings live in their own cottages in Sage Hollow now, they’re still haunted by the horrors they faced as children, especially on Halloween. While Grethel is giving out candy to trick-or-treaters, the witch shows up, badly scarred from getting burned in the oven, but very much alive and ready to eat the siblings. Just like the first time, Grethel must fight the witch alone, since she’s unable to call Hansel for help. Will Grethel defeat the wicked witch once and for all? You’ll need to read “Out of the Oven” to find out.

Fun fact, I decided to spell Gretel’s name as Grethel, since that’s how it was spelled in an older version of the fairy tale that I used as the foundation for mine. I loved including details from the original to make “Out of the Oven” a true sequel.

The Waiting Period

Every time I submit a story to an anthology, I anxiously wait for the email letting me know if my submission got accepted or not. For some reason, my friends and I lost our minds more than usual while we waited for Wickedness & Wonder decisions. First, I found out I made the shortlist, and then, I finally got my acceptance. I definitely squealed when the good news hit my inbox.

Opening My Copy of Wickedness & Wonder

I celebrated publication day by opening my copy of the book. This unboxing video is extra special, since Wickedness & Wonder is my tenth anthology.

I’m so grateful “Out of the Oven” is in this wonderful collection of reimagined fairy tales.
