The Submission Call
I love fantasy, romance, and winter, so when I saw the submission call for Seasons of Romantasy last year, I knew I wanted to write a story set during winter.
My first draft of “A Vow of Ice and Sapphires” was a hot mess and kind of dark. It needed a full rewrite, but the problem was, the deadline was coming up fast. I didn’t want to miss out on submitting, though. So, I came up with a totally different plot with the same characters and setting. I was worried I wouldn’t get the rewrite done in time, but then, the anthology gods granted me a miracle.
That’s right.
What was this miracle?
An extended deadline!
No kidding. They extended the deadline. If I’m remembering write, it was pushed back at least a week.
I couldn’t believe my luck. With the looming deadline no longer hanging over my head, I was able to rewrite the story, get feedback, and polish it up before submitting.
Thanks, anthology gods!
My Acceptance
When I received the email letting me know “A Vow of Ice and Sapphires” got accepted, I was beyond happy. I’m so glad I didn’t give up on this story when I realized the original version was a disaster because I absolutely love “A Vow of Ice and Sapphires.”
Also, I found out that the anthology would be split into four volumes, one for each season. This was such a cool idea, and because my story would be published in the winter one, I had to be patient for over a year until the book came out, but every second of the wait was worth it.
A Peek Into “A Vow of Ice and Sapphires”
“A Vow of Ice and Sapphires” is a new adult romantasy set on the Winter Solstice.
Apricity is one of the four lucky girls selected to participate in the Sapphirus Certamine at Gelu Castrum, a competition to marry Prince Sterling on his twenty-first birthday. Being from the most impoverished village in the kingdom, Apricity feels out of place in the castle, but she’s not there for the chance at a future full of wealth and royal status. She’s there to hopefully fall in love. As Apricity and the other girls face three circumstances orchestrated by the prince, she begins to highly doubt she’ll be chosen to become the princess. Little does Apricity know she’s about to begin the next chapter of her life, a chapter of magic and love.
I absolutely adore “A Vow of Ice and Sapphires,” and I hope readers will, too.
Opening My Copy of Seasons of Romantasy: Winter
The anthology was published on December 11, but I had to wait a few weeks for my copy to arrive in January. I loved opening the book, and you can watch the video on YouTube.
I was all smiles with the anthology. The other stories in here are incredible, so I’m honored to be published alongside them.

Thank you so much to Meghan for being a fabulous editor and to the Quill & Flame team for bringing the Seasons of Romantasy series to readers. I’m so grateful to be published in the winter anthology with “A Vow of Ice and Sapphires.”
