The Story Behind My “Homecoming Queen” Rendition
As a songwriter, making the choice to record a cover song was a huge decision. Still, “Homecoming Queen” holds such a special place in my heart that it was natural for me to do my own rendition. Watch the behind the cover video to hear what this song means to me and how I made it my own.
The “Homecoming Queen” Bridge
If you know me, you know I love bridges in songs. Kelsea’s original version of “Homecoming Queen” doesn’t have a bridge, so I took the opportunity to write one. Aside from the arrangement of the song, I wanted to bring a flavor of originality into it because I’m a songwriter first and artist second. So, I decided to write my very own bridge. Here are the lyrics.
Kick off your stilettos, take off your crown.
The diamonds and glitter won’t always be around,
But you don’t need ‘em.
‘Cause even if your tears fall like crystals,
Your golden heart will shine forever.
I love this bridge so much and feel it fits the song. I’m so glad I decided to write it because it definitely makes my rendition of “Homecoming Queen” one of a kind.
Recording at the Vault
I had such a blast recording “Homecoming Queen.” I got the majority of it finished during my birthday session on May 30, 2021.
I love how the song starts out with the acoustic guitar, like Kelsea’s, then flourishes into something much different. Luke’s guitar solo is absolutely incredible. It gives me chills every time I listen. Along with slaying the guitar, Luke created a fantastic bass line. I couldn’t be happier with how the guitar and bass turned out.
Also, my drummer, Sophia, did fabulous as well. The percussion adds something extra special to this song and definitely marks my rendition as a unique one.
Bob did a perfect job with the production as always. I’m so grateful I get to work with him. To be honest, “Homecoming Queen” is definitely one of my favorite studio recordings I’ve done so far.
I created a studio vlog from recording “Homecoming Queen” on my birthday. This is a fun one to watch, so I hope you enjoy it.
I love my rendition of “Homecoming Queen,” and I’m so glad it’s finally out in the world. Releasing this song was the best way to kick off 2022.
