A Weekend of Live Music in Kirksville
I had such a blast playing in Kirksville, Missouri this weekend. Both nights were so memorable, and it was amazing to see old friends and make new ones. I’m so excited to share the fun highlights.
Summer on the Square in Kirksville
On Friday night, I played in Kirksville’s Summer on the Square series. I heard about it last year, but by that time, all of the artists were contracted for the summer. So, I made sure to reach out early this year to try and land a spot. Lucky me, I did!
I played for an hour and a half, and it was definitely eventful. Before I even started my set, the D string on my guitar broke. Yep, you read that right. I’ve never broken a guitar string before, so I was super stressed. Unfortunately for me, I didn’t have another guitar with me, and I didn’t have another set of strings. Even if I did have strings, I don’t know how to restring a guitar, so there’s that. I thought I was doomed and would have to play my full set with only five strings, but some very lovely angels came to the rescue. Long story short, when I was a few songs into the set, two people showed up at the same time, one with a guitar for me to borrow and another with new strings. The one who brought the strings restrung my guitar for me. I’m so grateful. Literally, everyone in Kirksville is so kind.
So, once I had six strings again, I was all smiles and had a ton of fun. The crowd was one of the biggest I’ve played for, and I’m so thankful that I got to be part of Summer on the Square this year.
Moral of the story, when I get home, I’m going to have someone teach me how to restring a guitar and take an extra guitar and set of strings wherever I play from now on.
Back to Sip Downtown
On Saturday night, I played at Sip Downtown. I’ve played there a few times already, and a trip to Kirksville isn’t complete without stopping by for a night of live music.
In case you’re wondering, there were no more broken strings. Yay! I played for two hours. I started on guitar for the first hour, then I moved over to the piano for the second half. I loved getting to play both guitar and piano to mix it up. So many people showed up, and some stopped by to see me again after they watched me at Summer on the Square. That made my heart so happy. I’ll say it again, everyone here is so nice.
I’m so grateful that I got to play at Summer on the Square and Sip Downtown. I put together a little video with my photos and set clips from Sip Downtown.
This was definitely a Kirksville trip for the books. I’m looking forward to when I play here again. It’s always the best time.
