Christmas in July and Pop Vibes at the Vault

Today, I went to the Vault for ten hours and had a blast as always. I completely recorded my new Christmas song and made progress on a pop one. So, this was another productive session.

I’m Living in My Own Little Snow Globe

Last winter, I wrote “My Own Little Snow Globe,” and Christmas in July was the best time to bring it to the studio.

Bob and I started by recording a pad for the foundation, drums, piano, and of course, glockenspiels.

After that, I recorded the sleigh bells in one take. Playing the bells is always fun, even though they’re heavy and my arms aren’t very happy by the end.

Oh, and I brought my Santa hat to the studio because obviously.

Then, Brett sleighed the saxophone. Yes, that was a pun.

While he was playing, I kept flipping out over how good the saxophone sounded. Going through the different takes and choosing what I wanted took a while because I loved everything. Eventually, the saxophone was comped, and for the record, Brett’s solo slaps.

I can’t thank Brett enough for playing on another one of my Christmass songs!

Finally, I recorded the vocals, which was so much fun. Having the other instruments, especially the saxophone and sleigh bells, helped me get into the festive mood.

I can’t wait to release “My Own Little Snow Globe” this holiday season. Since I filmed while recording the song, I’ll share a studio vlog, too.

You’re Bad at Being Honest, But Good at Breaking Promises

During the extra time, I made progress on “Breaking Promises,” a total pop bop.

I started this song earlier in the year, so Bob and I finished the production. I absolutely love the vibe. The instrumentation is so cool, especially in the choruses.

At this point, I had less than an hour left, but I had enough time to sing the lead vocal. When I go back to the studio, I’ll do the rest. I have a ton of background vocals planned, so I’m looking forward to recording those.

Another incredible session is in the books. Now, I can listen to the rough recordings of “My Own Little Snow Globe” and “Breaking Promises” on repeat.
