A Fun Day Recording Pop Music at the Vault

Today, I went to the Vault for my first studio session of 2026. During the fun ten hours, I recorded all pop music, and I’m obsessed with these new songs.

Finishing “Ember in the Dark”

Last year, I almost finished recording “Ember in the Dark.” I wanted to tweak the production in places and layer other instruments, so Bob and I started the session with this song. Since we didn’t have a whole lot to do, we finished pretty quickly.

I love “Ember in the Dark” because it has such an empowering message. Right now, I’m unsure when I’ll release it, but I’m so happy it’s finally done.

Recording “Fall from Grace”

I spent the majority of my session recording “Fall from Grace,” my current obsession. I wrote this song last year when I was at my lowest, and it’s such a bop.

Since I had a very clear vision for this song, I showed Bob my demo, then had him listen to a couple reference tracks. We’ve worked together long enough that he knew exactly what I wanted to do.

“Fall from Grace” is very percussive and has a darker tone, so we spent a lot of time choosing instruments and layering them in strategic ways to give the song an arc and bring emphasis to certain moments.

Once we finished the production, I recorded vocals. I had the most fun finally singing this song in the studio. Since I wrote “Fall from Grace” at a time when I was feeling a lot of negative emotions, from hurt to frustration, I tried my best to channel these feelings. For the most part, I’ve moved on from what inspired this song, but I drew on my memories and lingering emotions while recording the vocals.

Once I sang the song, Bob and I went through and added an echo effect on some words. This seriously sounds so cool. I was giggling and kicking my feet the whole time.

Because of all the reverb and echoes, I didn’t record many background vocals. This was a little odd for me because I usually have a ton, but the ones I added are perfect. This is a really bold and powerful song, so I didn’t want to record too many background vocals to take away from that.

“Fall from Grace” is completely recorded, and it’s definitely a new favorite. Hopefully I’ll release this one sooner rather than later.

Starting “Breaking Promises”

When we finished “Fall from Grace,” we had about an hour left, so we started the production for “Breaking Promises.” This is a super fun song with a 2010s pop feel. I can’t wait to finish this one when I go back to the studio, probably during the summer.

So, that’s a wrap on my session. “Ember in the Dark” and “Fall from Grace” are done, and I got a nice start on “Breaking Promises.” I love my new pop music and can’t wait until my next session.
